“Escape through travel works. Almost from the moment I boarded my flight, life in England became meaningless. Seat-belt signs lit up, problems switched off. Broken armrests took precedence over broken hearts. By the time the plane was airborne I’d forgotten England even existed” The Beach, Alex Garland 1996

  1. "progress through living works.. Almost from the moment I boarded my flight, life everywhere became meaningful. Seat-belt signs lit up, I switched my problems off. I gave broken armrests precedence over broken hearts. By the time the plane was airborne, I'd allowed myself to be content with leaving fond memories to exist where they are richest, and to set about giving those memories the company of a wealth of kindred souls"
