too hot to shop

No, I’m not talking about the rich and famous with their personal shoppers. I’m talking about Paris and its stifling weather dragging people off the streets and out of the city to their holiday houses from Nice to Normandy. This makes it a perfect time for someone who doesn’t mind steaming concrete and shops with no air-conditioning. Add the sales or ‘soldes’ of up to 70% and you have the perfect recipe for paris bargain hunting.

After my 4th visit in 2 weeks to ‘merci’ near Bastille, I neglected my map and found a new ‘well new to me’ street filled with vintage and designer, with barely and customer in sight. The lack of clientele drew shop keepers out onto the street, smoking cigarettes and willing any passerby to enter. It felt like a movie and made for a very pleasant ‘browsers’ experience. Rue Poitou, The Marais.
